National Intelligence Community Research Program

The National Intelligence Community (NIC) Research Program enables Australian citizen or Australian Permanent Resident researchers to undertake competitive, unclassified research into NIC research priorities.

The program supports excellent research that deepens understanding of emerging science, social science and technology that addresses NIC interests. The program facilitates NIC innovation through talent development and research outcomes. Research grants enables Australia’s National Intelligence Community to systematically engage with Australia’s world-class research and technology community.

The National Intelligence Postdoctoral Grants (NIPG)

A NIPG (10 available) provides for a $365k (GST exclusive) Fellowship over two years to enable postdoctoral research by an individual into specific NIC-defined topics. Research proposals will be invited to address one or more research topics.

The grant period is 2 years for full time or up to 4 years part time when requested and approved for the following reasons:

  • Carer/family responsibilities up to 50%
  • Teaching appointment in a field relevant to the NIPG project up to 33%
